Curbed: Beatdown Hardcore Violence From Ohio!!!
Coming out of Cleveland, Ohio, Curbed represents the aggressive side of modern beatdown hardcore. Their sound is built around crushing guitar riffs, heavy grooves, pounding drums, hostile vocals, and breakdowns that put the emphasis exactly where it belongs: on weight and impact.
Curbed keeps things direct and physical, combining the confrontational attitude of hardcore with the slower, heavier mechanics of beatdown. Their riffs are designed to hit hard, their rhythms create constant tension, and the vocals deliver the kind of pissed-off energy that translates naturally from the speakers to the pit.
That approach places Curbed comfortably within the tradition of aggressive underground music while also connecting them to the current generation of beatdown and heavy hardcore bands coming out of Ohio. Cleveland has a well-established history of beatdown hardcore and metallic hardcore, and today’s younger bands continue to build on that legacy through DIY shows, independent labels, and underground releases.
Curbed’s debut EP, Means To An End (March 2006, Martial Law Records ), serves as a strong introduction to the band. The record establishes their identity through compact songwriting, thick riffs, mosh-heavy grooves, and an aggressive delivery. Instead of stretching songs unnecessarily, Curbed keeps the attack focused and gets straight to the point.
Means To An End sounds exactly like what a debut beatdown EP should sound like: heavy, pissed-off, and direct.
Tracks such as “On Sight,” “Swing Once,” “We Are Not The Same,” and “Come Through” showcase the band’s ability to move between driving hardcore sections and slower, heavier mosh parts. The EP closes with “The Golden Rule,” giving the record one final opportunity to unload its crushing groove before bringing the debut to an end.
That’s exactly why Curbed’s appearance on I Love Mosh: Heavyweight Compilation Vol. 13 fits so naturally.
